Derya Çelik was born in Karamürsel, Kocaeli, and completed his primary and secondary education there. He moved to İstanbul upon receiving a scholarship at the İstanbul Bilgi University Cinema and Television Department. During his school years, he acted in plays that was performed at the İstanbul Technical University (İTÜ) Stage. After graduation, he worked as director’s assistant in various films and television dramas. He concentrated on script writing and took part in screen writing groups. He worked as the office and production coordinator in director Faysal Soysal’s feature film “Crossroads” and documentary film “Srebrenica Mothers.” In 2016, he worked in the coordination of Justice and Compassion Short Film Festival organized by the Çekmeköy Municipality.
After receiving Contemporary Drama Association Creative Drama Leadership/Instructor certification, he completed the program with his completion thesis “Writing Short Film Script with Creative Drama Method. He continues to work with children and adults about writing film scripts with creative drama method.
