Tevfik Baser










Tevfik Baser studied at the College of Fine Arts in Hamburg. He directed the mid-length documentary Zwischen Gott und Erde in 1983. His first feature film, 40m2 Germany was screened at the 39th Cannes International Film Festival in 1986 during the “Semaine de la critique”. The film won the “Silver Leopard” in Locarno, “Best First Film” in Rotterdam, and the  “Unesco Prize” in Cannes. His second feature film, Farewell to False Paradise won the Grand Prix du Festival du Film de Strasbourg and was screened as the official selection of the 39th Berlin International Film Festival in 1989. His last feature film Farewell Stranger was screened as the official selection of the 44th Cannes Film Festival in 1991 and won the prize of “Best Director” in Verona. Tevfik Baser taught as a guest lecturer at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg between 1991- 2002 prior to joining Kadir Has faculty in 2003.
