To Those Who Bear Their Hearts<\/span><\/p>\n As we start Amity Short Film Festival, we are in an <\/span>era that humankind is not friendly to each other and <\/span>sacrifices itself by man-made technologies and <\/span>systems. We are in a structure, which is reduced to <\/span>producing and consuming more and more, isolated <\/span>within crowds and excluded, and alienated to it\u2019s <\/span>own nature for the sake of survival of the dominating <\/span>system. A form of slaver y is gaining popularity, in <\/span>which what one should do is dictated by using one\u2019s <\/span>private information that is monitored, observed, and <\/span>archived; however, one is convinced that he\/she is <\/span>free. While a small minority experiencing a great <\/span>extravaganza, a large mass of people are struggling <\/span>with starvation. We previously talked about the fact <\/span>that the number of people who are subjected to <\/span>injustice and tyranny are rapidly increasing in many <\/span>parts of the world; the persecutors successfully <\/span>are broadcasting the simulation that they are <\/span>distributing justice to the world. <\/span>Therefore, in an era that we experience the <\/span>dominant hegemony of conflict, oppression, <\/span>alienation, isolation, deterritorialization, and <\/span>marginalization, we have invited humanity to the <\/span>idea fermented in Anatolia, which is being friend <\/span>to him\/herself, to his\/her neighbor, and to distant <\/span>lands in dire need. We commemorate the histor y of <\/span>this geography, which extended hand of friendship <\/span>to many, regardless religion, gender, race etc., <\/span>from Jews that were persecuted in Spain to White <\/span>Russians that came to \u0130stanbul for salvation and to <\/span>Greeks that we fought shortly before. Today, we <\/span>showed millions of people who survived death by <\/span>taking refuge in Anatolia as an example, called on <\/span>all of people to meet in this make-up for the good of <\/span>humanity.<\/span>The reason of our desire to internationalize the <\/span>festival was that we were aware of the fact that the <\/span>way to get thru our youth in globalized world goes <\/span>thru telling it to the entire world. All over the world, <\/span>ever y region that our voices reached, in the words <\/span>of Fethi Gemuhlu\u011flu, we said all the friendship <\/span>must be told. The institutions, universities, and our <\/span>supporters that we cooperated day and night for the <\/span>festival have left behind a long working marathon. <\/span>In the first year of the thematic short film festival, <\/span>from 76 different countries 789 films were made <\/span>for \u201cFriendship.\u201d Pens wrote for friendship, the <\/span>keys of keyboards were stroked for friendship, and <\/span>camera viewfinder was used for friendship. For this <\/span>wonderful result, I thank to all from 76 countries <\/span>of 7 continents for answering our call and our <\/span>partners and festival team for working day and night <\/span>to reach this wonderful conclusion for friendship. <\/span>Only friendship can build a good future. As Mentor <\/span>Fethi Gemuhluo\u011flu expressed once, we have to be <\/span>a friend to our geography, histor y, neighbors, our <\/span>nature, and ourselves.
