He was born on May 7, 1966, in Istanbul. He graduated from Işık High School. While studying at Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration, he organized the first IFSAK Short Film Festival.

In 1990, he studied film editing and screen-writing at the CLCF in Paris. He completed both undergraduate and graduate studies on filmmaking at Paris Denis Diderot University. Around the same time, while doing his internship at various post-production firms, he also continued to work as a photographer.

In 1993, his first short film script (La Mort d’un cœur mouette) was among the top ten projects in the Ciné-Litterature competition. He started his Ph.D. at Paris Sorbonne University. In 2002, his thesis which was based on French screenwriter Jean-Loup Dabadie’s life and work, and argued that every screenwriter should be regarded as the creative mind, deemed very successful.

His preliminary DEA (doctoral qualification) work received the SIMON GENEVOIS – Best University Study Award given by the French Film Critics and Film Makers Association (Pierre D’Hugues, Bertrand Tavernier, Claude Beylie, Claude Sautet). He received his award from Claude Sautet.

Since 2000, he has been teaching script, dramatic expression, film and television writing at Istanbul Bilgi University. He has been working as a script doctor for various TV series and movies and as a script consultant for Eurimages since 2006. His book, “Screenwriting Book”, published in 2010, received Anadolu University Best Filmmaking Book award.
